How to listen

Kinetic typography and modern dance on what it’s like to talk about #metoo. Explored through body memory and inner monologue.

It’s not an easy subject to talk about. I’ve struggled for a while to find the right angle. I wanted my project to show true colors, as disorganized and fragmented they may be. The road through trauma recovery isn’t a straight one. It’s going backwards too quickly and forward too slowly.

In this project I explore the constant inner monologue, the intrusive thoughts as well as sharply pointed words aimed to the police, to close ones, to media and to the abuser. Words that are stuck inside the head, never finding their way out.

  • The body - dance for body memory.

    The body

The body has its own memory and it remembers so much. What the body remembers is tricky, unexpected and is recalled when triggered when experiencing something similar to what it remembers. I wanted to explore how fragmented and unclear that can be.

  • The inner monologue - what the mind remembers and how it presents it.

    The inner monologue

Memories aren’t always in chronological order. Sometimes they are all messed up. There is just so much the mind has to handle. Some of it needs to find a way out, but it never does. I wanted to give the inner monologue free roam, to give it space to act like it actually does.
